Awesome news and big grats to the citizens and community at large!

I think auto incumbent registration into the next election should be put back in (this is not to say that all abstains count as incumbent votes which was the heart of the problem, just the registering to run part).  This doesn't lead to the rudderless ship scenario, it simply protects against the kind of "sniping" that occurred here.

I agree with Kay. I think the current mayor should be auto-registered on the ballot, just change the part where it makes inactive or non-voting citizens vote for current mayor by default.

Or bring back what they had a long time ago where if someone registered to run it reset the election time. Sure elections took forever but it made sniping like this virtually impossible, because if a candidate registered the last 5 minutes before the ballot was locked then it reset the timer all over again.

I would definitly agree with this.

They current mayor should always be auto-registered. If they don't want to run, then they have to go and physically take themselves off the ballot at the terminal. That would save a lot of headache.

I think a simple fix would be to give a "grace-period." If the incumbent forgets to run, and is sniped in an election, he/she is simply given a final chance to register next election.

Anyways, thank you all for the thanks to RID, though there is no real need to. We just felt it neccesary to spread the appropriate information. In fact, we could've/should've done more, by warning all the cities about OWNZ beforehand, but at least things worked out the way they did.

Once again, thanks for the support.

The most people can do is be cautious as to who you let into the city. I know that sounds bitchy and harsh, but I'd check their guild and their background before hitting the /grantzoning button.

Hey I have 6 residents i can put in your friends city, let me know if this will help them and i will do it. Sadly i doubt this will stop OWNZ from continuing to do this, we all just need to be very vigilant and help any other cities they attempt to take.

Alas OWNz is like the park bully.

He just stole something from a kid and the parents I intervened. But the moment they aren't looking he'll smack the shit out of the kid for tattling.

So I just caution everyone to be on the lookout. It may not have really registered with them what happened yet but once they find out I wouldn't really be surprised to find them be omming lolcat griefers or trying to do it again.

I logged in today...sitting in a throne in the middle of their city hall as they were having a meeting lol.

They asked who I was, and I told them that I was a new citizen.

They asked me how I got there, I told them, the same way they did.

I told them that I was disappointed though, because from the looks of things, the property value had gone WAY down, and these guys in OWNZ were quite frankly, holding me back, and I just might have to do something about that ghetto city.

They were...not pleased :)

In this case, it wasn't the actual takeover that violated policy, it was the subsequent destruction of the city despite overwhelming support (47 votes for Poe at last count) against such an action. And that is where OWNZ made their biggest mistake. Contrary to what some believe, the mayor doesn't own the city. If no one had been on the ballot, or if there had only been a couple votes, this situation may have ended quite differently.

Carova rallied to its own defense. The citizens are the heroes of this story. The GMs only did what was right according to policy.

And the awesome part is that they were not only originally from Mos Carova or GP.
They were from various guilds and cities all across this server.

And that was something that ONWZ did not expect.

They get around this by sticking buildings on the outskirts of cities, Cee. When the city expands they get absorbed automatically.

Can I assume that we have effectively banned them from 13th Vent outside of events?

Having said this, I don't think I've ever seen the poor mudsuckers in a space event yet anyway.

Mos Carova has 40 citizens, I would like to have at least 55 citizens so the city wont decrease to rank 4 or even 3 but at the same time I need to put my trust in new citizens and not letting anyone in town with what happened lately, just let me know if you're able to join Carova on one of your toons.
