I usually don't mention these things for reasons that completely mystify.
Sarcasm. Utter sarcasm. Don't make me get the definition out.
My usual contact gets a hold of me, and asks if I could help out with a small matter. Yeah, sure, I like helping them out. Granted, I really like the ones on Tatooine since they did help me a lot. Oh, and we got along very well. Still do. His eldest youngling is looking into off world universities.
And I get a call saying that my skills could be of so much use, and oh yes, my space skills have measured up to be acceptable as a gunner. If I could go to these coords on this planet, it would help the Rebellion that much more...
Maybe. Well we did kill a lot of pirates and droids, and Celestials know we can use fewer of both. Not that I'm at the depth of my boss for droid hate, but droids with weapons. Bad idea. Someone at least managed to hack the pirates' droids, and made them stand down. Those bastards leapt out of the ground too. Traps. Utter chaos and I kept to my squad leader. Ninety-nine percent of the time, the best idea ever.
Well I survived it. Despite my squad leader and ship captain getting pissy with me. And his being a wookiee. Bad combination. Best thing to do is survive and run like the hells are at your heels. Because they might be catching up. Kept getting my Rebel handle wrong. Look, if I wanted to drag my family name through this mess, I would have used it. Hello? Major hint here. It's not about lying. It's about protecting my baby cousins. Oh those that you'd like to see protected too, eh? Makes me facepalm.
My body's completely toasted from the first the space turret thing, and then the ground pounding. I really should have asked for some bacta treatment, but it's really just bruising. A lot of bruising. I'll wait a week and I'll be good.
Soooo, wookiee goes off and I follow him into a diner of sorts. He accuses me of lying, and I lay out exactly what I'm doing by using a different name for my Rebel handle. Hells, it's not that different, hello. Then he's asking me about Dino. Well I don't know a lot about Dino beyond Feruso telling me to leave him the hells alone. Don't contact him. It'd distract him from what he's doing. Whatever that is. Raca asked me about Dino. I told him to talk to the boss lady. She's the one who handles personnel, right? Then he asks about what kind of man he is, whether he'd run when things got bad or stay to protect his current girlfriend. He has a girlfriend? Well, yeah, now I know he does. Good lady with a lot of spunk. Nice boobs too.
Raca puts a cred chip on the table and tells me to buy Rosa something nice to wear that actually matches. He's kidding, right? No. I can practically tell taht if I don't take the chip, he'd rip my head off. If I do take the chip, I'd be accepting his... I don't know. Meddling? Leadership? Place in my life? whatever it was, I didn't like it. Then he tells me that there are no attachments with Rosa or Bekkah. So I told him that I was taking it for Rosa to decide what to do with it. To avoid all attachments. I survived getting out of that diner at least.
Feruso told me to see Dino to scan the chip. Just in case. Nothing on it. No audio, video, locational or any kind of tracking. Met Dino's girl, let him know that Raca was looking for him.
Oh yes, he also said that we needed to tighten our security because his... agent, pet, whatever got too close to us.
I'm keeping a better eye open. Maybe we have exactly what we need in place, like Dino said. Maybe we just need to use it more.
