Background
Laryssa Dotan serves as the Executive Officer (XO) of the Victory-class Star Destroyer
Valorum, currently on patrol assignment in the Outer Rim Territories. She also serves double duty as the Interim Administrator of Lokian settlement of Aventine Spaceport, recently placed under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Navy.
A career officer in the fleet, Laryssa has continuously served as an Imperial officer since entering the Academy at the age of 18. Her father, Commodore-Senator Cyrus Dotan, encouraged his daughter to join the Imperial Navy throughout her childhood and adolescence. He saw her service as both the continuation of family tradition, as well as honoring the cultural traditions of Anaxes, the Dotan homeworld. Anaxsi culture typically calls for the eldest son so serve in the fleet. The Dotan family however consisted of only two daughters, placing the burden of Imperial service on eldest, Laryssa.
Once inducted into the Imperial Navy, Laryssa began to realize that Imperial service was not all fun and games, especially for females. Male chauvinism was rampant throughout the Imperial Academy system. In addition to discriminatory treatment, Laryssa was denied formal combat training, as well as any pilot training. Instead, Laryssa used her spare time to focus on her academic pursuits at the Academy, mastering several languages and maintaining high marks in virtually all courses.
Though she graduated with honors from the Imperial Academy at Prefsbelt IV, Laryssa was continuously given second-rate assignments due to her gender. Her father, keeping track of her career progress, was forced to personally intervene on several occasions to ensure his daughter was promoted when appropriate, and discourage any delays from the chauvinistic promotions board. Unfortunately, when Laryssa grew jaded with one of her superiors, Cyrus Dotan was forced to arrange his daughter's transfer to the
Valorum, captained by his good friend Arctos Vale. Captain Vale has been tasked by Cyrus with ensuring Laryssa maintains a straight and narrow path in her career advancement.

Growing up the typical and expected life of a prominent Anaxsi family, Laryssa's early life was filled with débutante balls, afternoon luncheons, and receptions for various dignitaries. Her father was the greatest influence while growing up, at times even raising her as if she were his son. Meanwhile, her mother doted on her other daughter to the point that it caused a rift between the sisters that continues to this day. While her upbringing accentuated human superiority, and her Imperial service causes her to express a degree of outward xenophobia, Laryssa's education indicates that there is little to suggest she personally holds any significant anti-alien prejudices.

Criminal Record
Laryssa believes in the rule of law. However, she has had run ins with local, Imperial, and military law enforcement. Significantly, while aboard Hosk Station for leave, she intervened when a pair of SAGroup younglings began publicly beating an elderly Twi'lek refugee and his grand-daughter. Additionally, she came close to facing a court-martial over a disagreement with a former commanding officer. The intervention of her father, and a Navy Judiciary Board ruling in her favor prevented the ruining of her career.
